Recently I have finished Ask The Dust by John Fante. Yes, the very book that Bradley Cooper is reading on the bench in Central Park in the movie of The Words. The book differs from the movie. Movie is much more optimistic than the book but I like both. If you want to know about Charles Bukowski`s God - John Fante, the you must read it. It is somehow autobiographical as well and gives you wide view of Fante`s life in Los Angeles.
Name of the book was taken from Knut Hamsun`s book - Pan, from the following extract.
"The other one he loved like a slave, like a crazed and like a beggar.
Why? Ask the dust on the road and the falling leaves, ask the mysterious
God of life; for no one knows such things. She gave him nothing, no
nothing did she give him and yet he thanked her. She said: Give me your
peace and your reason! And he was only sorry she did not ask for his
life."
